Милый мой Лева! У меня к тебе большая просьба. Уж так как ты и Саша так добры, что берете меня к себе нахлебником и жильцом, то я хотел бы устроить своё жилище как можно удобнее. Прежде всего мне необходим стол для занятий. Я бы попросил тебя, голубчик, велеть мне сделать из простого дерева большой стол, по возможности крепкий и нешатающийся. Так как это лето мне предстоит инструментовать целую оперу, то нужно, чтобы было где раскладывать свои листы, чтоб было просторно. Так как я ещё хорошенько себе не представляю своего будущего помещения, то пока мест попрошу тебя поставить сколь ка необходимо мебели. Побывав же у Вас весной, я, может быть, съезжу в Киев или в Москву для покупки всего, что мне будет нужно в моем жилище. Лева! я никоим образом не могу допустить, чтобы ты тратился на мае устройство, и потому предупреждаю тебя, что я, во что бы та ни стало, должен принять на свой счёт стоимость перестройки и переделки флигеля. Так как уж я попал на тему денег, то ещё скажу следующее. Я не намерен скрывать ни от тебя, ни от Саши, что я могу себя считать теперь человеком богатым, ибо получаю от M[ada]me Мекк 500 р[ублей] в месяц, так что вместе с зарабатываемыми мною деньгами я могу получать в год от 7 да 8 тысяч. Мне осталось жить здесь ещё несколько дней, после чего поеду сначала в Берлин, где проведу дня два, и потом в Петербург. Признаюсь тебе, что я не могу думать о возвращении в Петербург без отвращения и ненависти к этому городу, — но вместе с тем мне ужасно хочется видеть братьев, Папу моего милого, Анну, — ну, словом, несколько без конечно дорогих для меня людей, которые, как будто назло мне, живут в отвратительном чухонском болоте, называемом С[анкт]-Петербург. Зато к Вам меня тянет ужасно. Как ни мало симпатична мне самая Каменка, но в конце концов она всё-таки деревня, а уж жить у Вас мне до того приятно! Как я был счастлив, получив ''письмо'' от Бобика. Начертанные им строки были покрыты поцелуями. Как мне хочется поскорей увидать горделиво-изящную Татьяну, благоуханную фиалку Веру, аппетитный свежий огурчик из грядки — Тасю, воинственного и рыцарского Митю, поэтического Бобика и, наконец, несравненного Уку, а также прекрасных родителей сего юного поколения. Очень будет приятно приехать к Вам. Если Толя меня отпустит или поедет со мной, то прибуду к пасхе, если же нет, то тотчас после пасхи. А пока нежно всех Вас обнимаю.
