[[Nadezhda Filaretovna]] has spoiled me so much by anticipating my needs and desires that for some reason I expected that she would instinctively know what I needed now. But I was mistaken, and now I see that I won't have a kopek until the autumn. Вчера приехал вечером в Браилов и нашёл здесь 2 письма от Н[адежды] Ф[иларетовны] и ''часы'', которые она мне дарит. Часы были заказаны зимой в Париже и только недавно присланы; — они великолепны. Но, признаюсь, я в настоящую минуту предпочёл бы деньги, в коих неимоверно нуждаюсь, т. е. не в нескольких стах, а по крайней мере в тысячах четырёх, дабы заплатить все долги и иметь возможность по миновании срока начать снова получать свою ежемесячную субсидию и пользоваться. Может быть, я приму меры и решусь у кого-нибудь просить помощи, — но покамест единственное средство жить безвыездно в Каменке и отказаться от всяких поездок. Вот почему заранее предупреждаю тебя, что никуда отсюда не тронусь до конца июля, а потом прямо в Каменку, где и надеюсь обнять тебя. Между нами будь сказано, я надеялся найти здесь не ''часы'', а какую-нибудь экстраординарную сумму денег. Над[ежда] Фил[аретовна] так избаловала меня предупреждением моих нужд и желаний, что я почему-то рассчитывал, что она по инстинкту узнает, чего мне теперь нужно. Но я ошибся и теперь вижу, что до осени у меня ни коп[ейки] не будет.

Здесь так же хорошо, тихо, покойно, роскошно и удобно, как и всегда. Но я вряд ли останусь здесь, т. е. собственно в Браилове, более 4–5 дней. Мне хочется переехать скорей в Симаки, где более скромно, но так идеально уютно.

В Каменке у тебя будет угол, а именно: или комната Пелагеи Осиповны, которая в начале августа совсем покидает Каменку, или ''караулка'' в большом доме.

Я бы советовал тебе, в видах экономии и оберегания себя от излишняго утомления, побывать на несколько дней в Рыбнице и, может быть, у Коли, а потом ехать прямо в Каменку.
