I am taking the liberty of asking you to devote 2 or 3 evenings to playing through these works together with [[Langer]], so that you can correct everything that appears to be difficult to play and make a note of the numerous printing errors. In short, I am asking you to tidy up the aforesaid three works such that [[Jurgenson]] can bring out new editions of them and present my compositions to the public in a wholly decent shape. I recall that in the [[3rd Symphony]] there are lots of passages which are quite impossible to play. In the [[Symphony No. 1\|1st]] there are fewer of these, but it does also have inconvenient things: for instance, in the Scherzo, after the trio it is necessary to turn back a few pages, and then after that one has to turn the pages again and look for the coda. Сергей Иванович! У меня к Вам покорнейшая и убедительнейшая просьба. Нужно Вам сказать, что я в последнее [время] убиваюсь мыслью, что большинство моих прежних сочинений искажено плохими корректурами, но отчасти также и плохими аранжементами. С этою целью я решился подвергнуть обстоятельному исправлению всё, что написал. Но так как у меня не хватает терпения, охоты и умения исполнить моё намерение без посторонней помощи, то я и решаюсь побеспокоить Вас. Просьба моя состоит в следующем. Эдуард Лангер переложил на 4 руки мои симфонии 1-ую, 3-ю, а также «''Бурю''». Я осмеливаюсь Вас просить посвятить вечера 2 или 3 проигрыванию этих вещей вместе с Лангером и исправлению всего того, что окажется неудобоисполнимым, а также отмечанию многочисленных опечаток. Словом, прошу Вас довести означенные три вещи до того, чтобы Юргенсон посредством новых изданий мог бы предложить публике мои сочинения в совершенно приличном виде. Помнится, что в 3-ей симфонии есть много мест, совершенно невозможных для исполнения. В 1-ой их меньше, но есть тоже неудобства, нап[ример], в Скерцо нужно после трио перевернуть назад несколько стр[аниц], а потом для коды опять перевёртывать и искать. А главное—масса опечаток!

Ради Бога, не сердитесь за мою наглость. Не попросите ли Вы Кашкина присутствовать при этом и помогать Вам? Юргенсон даст Вам экземпляры. Лангеру напишу. Обнимаю Вас.
