Получил сегодня утром Ваше письма, тотчас же принялся за переделки, требуемые цензурою, и поспешил отправить результат моей работы Геннадию Петровичу. Мне очень жаль, что требуют превращения ''Архиепископа'' в ''Странника'', и я буду просить Юргенсона съездить в Петербург и похлопотать, чтобы мне позволили назвать это действующее лицо ''Кардиналом''. Если в «Жидовке» есть Кардинал, то почему не позволят его и в «Орлеанской деве?» Что касается запрещения ''крестов'', то в финальной сцене ради него пришлось сделать сокращение.

«''Итальянское каприччио''» в переложении на 4 руки уже готова, а в виде партитуры и голосов печатается и будет готова к 1-му ноября; по крайней мере так обещает мне Юргенсон, которому, впрочем, я напишу, что Вы хотите эту вещь исполнить и желаете точного известия насчёт того, когда она будет готова. Я думаю, что если Юргенсон он опоздает, то очень немного.

Касательно о 2-ой симфонии я должен предупредить Вас, что г. Бессель вряд ли исполнит своё обещание напечатать партитуру и голоса в течение этого сезона; по крайней мере до сих пор я не получил корректуры. Вообще я весьма сожалею, что имел сношения с этим недобросовестным издателем. Между тем 2-ую симфонию нельзя исполнить иначе, как в новом её виде, так как старую партитуру я уничтожил. Не случится ли Вам встретиться с г. Беcселем? Если да, то потрудитесь сказать ему, что его собственные выгоды требуют, чтобы он честно исполнял свои обязательства. Если уж он решительно не может приготовить печатные голоса и партитуру, — то пусть бы хоть представил их Вам переписанными. Впрочем я ему об этом напишу.

А Вас, милый друг, благодарю за включение двух моих пьес в программу. Меня это до крайности радует.

До 1-го ноября я останусь здесь, а после того, может быть, уеду, но куда бы ни уехал, буду сообщать Вам мой адрес, так, чтобы Вы всегда могли меня вытребовать в Петербург.

От всей души желаю Вам здоровья и силы переносить труды Ваши.

I received your letter this morning, immediately setting about the alterations required by the censor, and hastened to send the result of my labour to [[Gennady Kondratyev|Gennady Petrovich]]. I'm very saddened that they require the ''Archbishop'' to be transformed into a ''Nomad'', and I'll ask [[Jurgenson]] to go to [[Petersburg]] and take the trouble to find out whether I might be allowed to call this character a ''Cardinal''. If there's a Cardinal in "La Juive", then why can't one be allowed in "[[The Maid of Orleans]]"? As for the ''crosses'' being prohibited, then I had to cut them from the final scene.

The "''[[Italian Capriccio]]''" is now ready in an arrangement for 4 hands, while the score and parts will be ready for printing by 1st November; at least, that's what [[Jurgenson]] promises me, although I'll write to him that you want to perform the thing and want accurate news about when it will be ready. I think that if [[Jurgenson]] is late, it will be only slightly.

Regarding the [[Symphony No. 2|2nd symphony]], I must warn you that Mr [[Bessel]] is unlikely to fulfil his promise to print the score and parts during the course of this season; at any rate, I still haven't received the proofs. In general, I greatly regret having relations with this unscrupulous publisher. Meanwhile the [[Symphony No. 2|2nd symphony]] can only be performed in its new form, since I have destroyed the full score. Have you occasion to meet Mr [[Bessel]]? If so, then kindly tell him that it's to his own advantage to honestly fulfil his obligations. If he categorically cannot prepare the printed parts and score, then he should at least provide you with handwritten ones. I'll write to him about this anyway.

But thank you, dear friend, for including two of my pieces in the programme. This gladdens me immensely.

I'll be staying here until 1st November, after which perhaps I'll leave, but wherever I go I shall inform you of my address so that you can always summon me to [[Petersburg]].
