Сегодня получил твоё письмо и ужасно был рад. Во-первых, всегда для меня радость получать от тебя письма, а во-вторых, мне приятно было, что ты ''хорошо'' написал письмо, чисто и почти без ошибок.

У нас все по-прежнему. Алекс[андра] Ильинична понемножку поправляется, но ещё очень слаба и худа; все остальные здоровы. Погода стояла все время отличная, только сегодня что-то холодно и пасмурно. Мы часто ездим в лес с чаем. Вообще, по-видимому, всё осталось по-старому, — но для меня все кажется иначе и гораздо хуже и скучнее, потому что тебя нет. Я собрал все твои карточки вместе и каждый вечер долго их рассматриваю и вспоминаю старое время. Не знаю почему, но особенно приятно мне смотреть на твою карточку, снятую в 1874 году; она напоминает мне поездку в Низы. Ах, какое это было славное время!

Степан опять не совсем здоров; у него всё ревматизм в ногах. Говорят, что едет куда-то лечиться, а потом вернётся. Носятся слухи, что в него влюблены ''Мисс Иствуд и Мина'' — обе; только это секрет; ты об этом ничего не пиши ни Евстафию, ни в Каменку. Анна Ивановна что-то ходит невесёлая: я подозреваю, что она об тебе скучает.

Лёня! Посылаю тебе, голубчик, записочку к Петру Ивановичу; получи у него 50 рублей, из коих 25 отдай Мише, а 25 оставь себе. Но прошу тебя, Лёня, не ходить к Петру Ивановичу ранее 25 числа, ибо только к тому времени он получит от меня деньги, а вперёд брать мне бы не хотелось. Целую тебя, моя радость, крепко.
