Ах ты будущий отец! Как я радуюсь известию о положительной беременности Параши. Скажи ей, что она мне стала теперь вдвое дороже, ближе и милее. Господи! Как я буду рад иметь от тебя племянничка! Решительно ничего не знаю, когда и куда поедем. Пока у Модеста не заживёт его новая ранка, тронуться нельзя. Надеюсь, что к концу будущей недели она заживёт. В таком случае он прямо проедет в Петербург. А я? следовало бы мне побывать в Каменке, чтобы получить по переводу на банк деньги. Но раз что я попаду в Каменку, не умнее ли будет там прожить весь август, хорошенько поработать и уж потом ехать на север тратить заработки. С другой стороны, жаль мне оставить Модеста, который вследствие своих глупейших, но столь упорных нарывов стал так худ, жёлт и бледен, что боюсь пустить его одного на войну с Алиной. Да и хочется воспользоваться кстати этим случаем, чтобы с тобой повидаться, и с Алёшей, и с Петр[ом] Иван[овичем], с коим нужно многое кое о чем поговорить. Уже ты меня прости, Толя, что я поступаю так нерешительно. Но, во-1-х), нужно Модеста поберечь; во-2-х), нужно иметь в виду денежные расчёты и воздержаться от поездки, если она не будет нужна; в-3), нужно иметь в виду интерес моей работы. У меня теперь отлично пошла опера (между нами); может быть, остался месяц какой-нибудь, чтобы её кончить вчерне; не знаю, что лучше: теперь отдохнуть и осенью доканчивать или докончить и потом уже ехать отдыхать. Вот всё это приняв в соображение, я и решу, как поступить. Во всяком случае, дам тебе знать почтой и телеграфом, все ли мы трое приедем в Москву или Модест с Колей без меня. Можешь ли ты их приютить у Вас на даче? У них денег в обрез, чтоб доехать до Петербурга. Целую, голубчик, тебя и милую беременную Паничку.
