	Милый Толичка! Сегодня, 4 февраля, депеши от тебя нет, и, признаюсь, я начинаю беспокоиться. Воображаю, какие ты ужасные дни перенёс в ожидании разрешения? Эта неизвестность убийственна. Жду депеши с минуту на минуту. В прошлое воскресенье, 30 января, мы отвезли Таню в maison de santé. Первое впечатление было очень тяжёлое: во 1-х, жалко её было отдавать в чужой дом; а, во 2-х, самый дом несимпатичен: довольно грязно, комната крошечная, и страшный беспорядок, так что мы едва добились, чтобы ей принесли воды и дров! Потом, разумеется, все вошло в более или менее определенный порядок и жить оказалось сносно, и нужно отдать справедливость Тане, эти маленькие неприятности она переносит очень терпеливо. С следующего дня началось уменьшение морфинной дозы, а во вторник я имел случай узнать, До какой степени ужасна эта привычка к морфину. Только оттого, что ей уменьшили какую-нибудь 40-ю часть прежней дозы, она была целый день в самом ужасном состоянии, ~~Теряла~~ сознание, металась, кричала, молила об морфине и т. д. The not knowing is killing me. I'm expecting a dispatch at any moment. Last Sunday, 30 January, we took [[Tanya]] to the maison de santé. It produced a very difficult first impression: firstly, it was sad to leave her in someone else's house, and, secondly, the house itself is unsympathetic: quite dirty, the room is tiny, and in a terrible mess, such that we barely managed to obtain her water and firewood. Then, of course, everything fell into a more or less regular routine, and life turned out to be bearable, and we must give [[Tanya]] her dues that she bears these little troubles most patiently. The next day the morphine dose started to be reduced, and on Tuesday I had the chance to find out how awful this morphine habit is. Just because they reduced her to something like a 40th part of the previous dose, she was in the most awful state all day long, losing consciousness, thrashing about, screaming, begging for morphine, etc. It was awful to watch her. But thanks to various auxiliary means, the next day she felt better, and yesterday and today she is completely well, such that yesterday we walked very cheerfully, and today [[Modest]] found her perfectly content with her health, the room, the doctors, and her care.
