	If you will permit me to rectify an error that badly-informed Russian newspapers have spread, and which have found an echo in "''Le Gaulois''" itself — it is important that the repercussions of an unfounded rumour do not cast a shadow upon the patriotic sentiments of Monsieur [[Anton Rubinstein\|Rubinstein]], for which I can vouch to you with the most perfect sincerity. 	It is true, as you announced yesterday, that ''it is in lieu of Monsieur [[Anton Rubinstein\|Rubinstein]]'' that the task of composing a cantata destined to be sung on the same day as the coronation has fallen upon me; but it is also true that Monsieur [[Anton Rubinstein\|Rubinstein]] had to decline this honour for the sole reason that, having to conduct several concerts of the Imperial Russian [Musical] Society, and the text of the cantata having been delivered too late for him to find the time necessary to write it, he was compelled to relinquish it. Si je me permets de rectifier une erreur que des journaux russes mal renseignés ont répandue, et dont lе « ''Gаulоis'' » lui-même s'est trouve être l'еcho — c'est qu'il importe que le retentissement d'un bruit mal fondé ne porte pas ombrage aux sentiments patriotiques de М[onsieur] Rubinstein dont je puis vous certifier la parfaite sincérité.

Il est vrai, comme vous l'annonciez hier, que ''c'est à dèfaut de М[onsieur] Rubinstein'' que m'incomba la tâche de composer la cantate destinée à être chantée le jour même du couronnement ; mais il est vrai aussi que М[onsieur] Rubinstein dut décliner cet honneur, seulement pour cette raison que, ayant plusieurs concerts de la Société impériale russe а diriger, et le texte de la cantate ayant été livre trop tard pour qu'il plût trouver le temps nécessaire pour l'écrire, il se vit forcément obligé d'y renoncer.

C'est alors que, d'après son conseil, on eut recours à Votre humble serviteur.

Vous m'obligerez infiniment, monsieur, en livrant ces quelques lignes а la publicité du «''Gаulоis''».
