	This whole summer, instead of resting, I have been working like an ox, terribly neglecting my correspondence, and not writing to you even once, for which I ask you to forgive me. The work that so absorbed me for a huge number of hours, days and weeks, was the proofreading of "''[[Mazepa]]''", all of which I did myself. Even so, the composing demon did not leave me in peace, and I began to make plans for a large symphonic work, as always, with feverish haste. I shall be remaining here with my brother [[Anatoly]] until the middle of August; then I shall leave first for Kursk province to see my brother [[Nikolay Tchaikovsky\|Nikolay]], then for Poltava to see [[Modest]], and finally to [[Kamenka]], where I intend to spend the autumn. At the start of the winter I shall come to [[Moscow]], in order to attend the production of my opera, which will be in preparation from the very start of the season. Therefore, I shall have the pleasure of seeing you. In a few days I intend to start discussions again about inviting you to the Conservatory. Naturally, I cannot promise a good outcome, but I shall do everything possible to arrange it. The point is not that you are taken on, so to speak, ''out of charity'', but that a diligent and conscientious tutor is being deliberately attracted to the Conservatory. Naturally, in due course I shall inform you of the results of my efforts. Until we meet, dear [[Anna Yakovlevna]].
