	I've sent you the proofs of the first four movements today. As usual I was in a rage the whole time while correcting them, and more than once I had the urge to dash to Kolpashny Lane, in order to raze your metallography to the ground. How is Aleksey Karpov's mother faring! If she is alive, then she will have hiccupped incessantly for several days in a row, and if she was deceased then her bones shook in her grave. It's pitiful to admit that anything engraved by the Germans is far better in comparison to the ramshackle scratching on the plates produced by Aleksey Karpov et al!!! Я послал тебе сегодня корректуру первых четырёх частей. Как водится, все время, пока корректировал, злился и неоднократно имел побуждение лететь в Колпашный переулок, чтоб истребить твою металлографию дотла. Как доставалось маменьке Алексея Карпова! Если она жива, то ей икалось несколько дней сряду без конца, а если покойница, то косточки её содрогались в могилке. Грустно признаться, но все, что гравировано немцами, без сравнения лучше, чем бесшабашное царапанье по доскам, производимое Алексея Карповым, и т. п.!!!

''Вторую корректуру я необходимо должен сам сделать, чтобы видеть, понятны ли мои указания и поправки''. Третью пусть сделает кто хочет, но если я в то время буду в Москве, то сам сделаю. ''Макс'' очень торопился и во многих местах только ещё больше напутал. Жду поскорей 2-й корректуры, а также ''пятую'' часть. Хотел послать бандеролью, но не приняли — ибо более 10 фунтов.
