	I recall, [[Modichka]], that you told me I needed to write on Wednesday so that the letter would arrive on Sunday; today is Wednesday, but I think it will be late all the same, because the letter won't make it to the post train before tomorrow. My unpunctuality was due to the fact that I went to [[Moscow]] for a day. I handed over the suite, and it's already being engraved. The entire day I stayed in [[Moscow]] was devoted to unbridled carousing; I had lunch with [[Jurgenson]], [[Tolya]] and [[Batalina]] at the "Slavonic Bazaar", dinner at the "Hermitage" with the same people and [[Laroche]], then we went to the "Hermitage" garden. The carousing wasn't nearly as fun as it seemed from afar, and it was unpleasant afterwards, because of the shame of frittering so much money away. But all the same, as soon as you arrive, [[Laroche]] and I shall go to meet you in [[Moscow]] and carouse again. I returned here with a supply of music paper, a mass of piano duet arrangement to play in 4 hands with [[Laroche]]; and I also brought books, and hope to spend my time actively and pleasantly. Unfortunately, the weather is awful. Yesterday it rained incessantly, and today it's as cold as the end of October. Nevertheless, I'm still delighted by the surroundings. Just as I wrote the previous lines, from my window I could se the charming spectacle of a procession of the cross from the church to the river, for the blessing of the water. This procession against the lovely green background of the meadows and woods was delightful. 	Помню, Модичка, что ты говорил мне, что в среду нужно писать, чтобы письмо пришло в воскресенье; сегодня среда, но, кажется, я всё-таки опоздаю, ибо в почтовый вагон письмо не попадёт раньше завтра. Неаккуратность моя произошла оттого, что я ездил на сутки в Москву. Сюиту отдал, и уже гравируется. Весь день пребывания в Москве был посвящён неистовому кутежу: завтракал с Юргенс[оном], Толей и Баталиной в «Славянск[ом] базаре», обедал в «Эрмитаже» С теми же и Ларошем, потом были в саду «Эрмитаж». Кутить было совсем не так весело, как издали казалось, а по окончании его неприятно, ибо жаль вылетевших в огромном количестве денег. Но всё-таки, как только ты приедешь, мы с Ларошем поедем тебя встретить в Москву и опять будем кутить. Я возвратился сюда с запасом нотной бумаги массы четырёхручных аранжементов для игры в 4 руки с Ларошем; и книг также привёз и надеюсь деятельно и приятно провести время. К сожалению, погода ужасная. Вчера лил нескончаемый дождь, а сегодня холодно. как в конце октября. Тем не менее я продолжаю восхищаться местностью. Сейчас, когда я писал предыдущие строчки, из окна моего мне ~~представлял ось~~ очаровательное зрелище крестного хода из церкви к реке на освящение воды. Эта процессия на прелестном зелёном фоне лугов и леса была восхитительна.
