	Thank you for your most sweet little letter. Reading it, I very much wanted to find myself at [[Kamenka]]. I often yearn for it; I'm very used to considering it my ''home'' and it's somehow strange to be away from it for so long. Summer here is still making itself very little felt; there's snow here and there; the grass is barely green; today I heard the timid warble of a nightingale for the first time. [[Maydanovo]] in general isn't especially sympathetic, the main thing being that there's another dacha next to mine, which, it seems, has already been let, and there are other dacha owners in the same estate. But the area is beautiful, and the view from my windows is wonderful. I shall surely be going to [[Kamenka]] — but as to when, I cannot say yet. [[Parasha]] is moving on 3rd May. I went to [[Moscow]] in the matter of my opera "''[[Cherevichki]]''" (a reworking of "[[Vakula the Smith]]") being accepted for production next season. The business concluded in the most successful way: [[Vsevolozhsky]] ordered it to be staged with ''particular'' opulence. Yesterday I celebrated my 45th birthday at [[Tolya]]'s. [[Nikolay von Meck\|Kolya Meck]] dined with us. I'm expecting to travel to [[Petersburg]] in a few days; [[Bob]] wanted to stay with me, but it seems that [[Sasha]] wants to travel without stopping, and I shall be deprived of the pleasure of having [[Bob]] as a guest. I regret this, but on the other hand I realise that it's better for him to go there soon. In May I must attend the conservatory examinations, and unfortunately I'll be living in [[Moscow]] for the greater part of a month; furthermore, on the 20th I have to go to ''[[Smolensk]]'' for the opening of the [[Glinka]] monument. Я часто вздыхаю о ней; очень уж привык считать её своим ''домом'' и как-то странно столь долго отсутствовать из неё. Лето здесь ещё очень мало даёт себя чувствовать; кое-где лежит снег; трава едва зеленеет; сегодня в первый раз услышал робкое щёлканье соловья. Майданово в общем не особенно симпатично, главное оттого, что рядом с моей стоит другая дача, которая, кажется, уже нанята, да и другие дачники в той же усадьбе есть. Но местность красивая, и из моих окон вид чудесный. Я, наверное, буду в Каменке, — но когда, не могу ещё сказать. Параша переезжает 3-гo мая. Ездил в Москву по делу о принятии к постановке на будущий сезон моей оперы «''Черевички''» (переделанный «Кузнец Вакула»). Дело кончилось самым удачным образом: Всеволожский велел её поставить с ''особенной'' роскошью. Вчера у Толи я праздновал своё 45-летие. Коля Мекк обедал с нами. На днях жду проезда наших из Петербурга; Боб хотел у меня погостить, но, кажется, Саша хочет проехать безостановочно, и лишён буду удовольствия принимать у себя Боба. Сожалею, но с другой стороны сознаю, что ему лучше скорее быть на месте.
