Even [[Glazunov]] can be treated rather high-handedly, but [[Korsakov]] is such an eminent and respected artistic figure that it's downright impossible to ask him for something to be performed, as happened here, and then not to perform it. Пожалуйста, милый друг, окажи мне следующую услугу. Сходи к ''Эрдмансдёрферу'' и скажи ему следующее.

Я видел ''Римского-Корсакова и Глазунова''. Тот и другой спрашивали меня, будут ли исполнены их сочинения, которые было обещано исполнить. Ещё в Смоленске я сказал Глазунову, что у нас назначено на программе его вещь; у Корсакова вытребовали его ''симфониетту'', и, если эти сочинения не будут исполнены, они будут очень оскорблены, а я останусь в дураках, ибо обещаю то, чего не делается. Скажи ''Эрдмансдёрферу'', что ради ''личного одолжения'' я его ''прошу и умоляю'' сыграть ''симфониетту Корсакова'' вместо моей серенады, а вещь Глазунова (всего лучше выбрать Andante Des-dur или симфонич[ескую] поэму «Стенька Разин») всунуть в какой-нибудь другой концерт. Ещё с Глазуновы можно относиться с некоторым высокомерием, но Корсаков такой выдающийся и достойный всякого уважения деятель, что решительно нельзя просить у него что-нибудь для исполнения, как это было сделано, и потом не исполнить. Из его слов я вижу, что это страшно огорчит и оскорбит его.

Меня задержало здесь нездоровье и другие дела; проеду прямо в Майданово, и, вероятно, не в воскресенье, а позднее. Следовательно, в концерте в субботу быть решительно не могу.
