В № 59 «Санкт-петербургских ведомостей» музыкальный рецензент, подписавшийся ***, между прочими курьёзами, сообщаемыми для ''развлечения читателей в скорбное великопостное время'', рассказывает о получении им по почте от профессора Московской консерватории П. И. Ч., написанной этим последним в назидание г. *** статейки.

Так как г. *** прямо обвиняет меня ''в непрошенном, назойливом навязывании ему моих печатных суждений'', то, прежде всего, позвольте мне, через посредство уважаемой Вашей газеты, заявить ему, что ни одной моей статьи, кому бы то ни было в назидание написанной, ни в одном печатном органе Москвы не появлялось.

Но если подобная статья где-нибудь и была напечатана и, предположив даже, что она действительно принадлежит мне, хотя мною и не подписана, то, обращаясь к здравому смыслу предавшего меня на посмеяние рецензента, спрошу его: 1) каким образом, находя для себя удобным скрываться под псевдонимом, я в то же время стал бы приставать к г. ***, предмету моих мнимых назиданий, с разоблачением моего инкогнито? и 2) для чего, имея честь быть лично знакомым автору музыкальных хроник «Санкт-петербургских ведомостей», я мог бы найти нужным ограничиваться в моих письменных сношениях с ним лишь заглавными буквами моего имени, отчества и фамилии и как бы таить под этим, впрочем, весьма прозрачным обозначением моей личности, моё настоящее и полное прозвище?

Предоставляя разрешение этих вопросов музыкальному рецензенту академической газеты, не могу удержаться, чтоб не посоветовать г. *** быть проницательнее, осмотрительнее и изобретательнее, когда, по каким-нибудь соображениям, он найдёт нужным повредить своему собрату.
