The [[Kondratyev]]s are living in the big dacha. They've settled in far worse than we did. It's just like being in some sort of bivouac: no curtains, no awnings, everything was somehow bare and uncomfortable. ''[[Nikolay Kondratyev\|Nikolay Dmitryevich]]'' himself has taken [[Panina]]'s rooms. ''[[Mary]], Dina and [[Emma]]'' have settled in the three rooms where [[Tatyusa]] lived with the nanny, and in [[Tolya]]'s office. The large dacha opposite is home to two barons, both family men, who have a piano, the sounds from which reach me — however, they are very decent and agreeable people. The same ''Sytins'' are living in the orangery, while Novichikha herself is to be found in a far away dacha. She is the same muddle-headed and careless chatterbox as before. She goes to see the [[Kondratyev]]s every day, but behind their backs she continually scolds and condemns them. Sometimes we have vint in the evenings. It's awfully strange for me to see not [[Tolya]], not [[Panya]] and [[Tatu]], not [[Modest]] and Kolya Peresleni at the big dacha, but rather [[Nikolay Kondratyev\|Nikolay Dmitryevich]], [[Mary]] etc. It's just as if they'd been misplaced there! The weather isn't like last year — it's foul. It's been awfully cold, such that [[Nikolay Kondratyev\|Nikolay Dmitryevich]] was heating his ~~houe~~ on 18, 19 and 20 June, although now it's turned warmer, but then the rain never stops. [[Vasya]] has become hideously ugly, Arisha has lost weight and become prettier, the dog ''Goryun'' has died, and my ''Top'' has become a proper adult dog; the cook Vasily is just as shy and sympathetic, [[Aleksey]] argues no less than before, Sasha Legoshin is attending to his master's eczema ([[Nikolay Kondratyev\|Nikolay Dmitryevich]] now has, besides eczema, a rash on his face) — and that's all, I think, worthy of note. Вот уж 6 дней что я у себя. Очень приятно было очутиться в миленьком уголке. Алексей превосходно все приготовил к принятию меня, и трудно передать, как мой домик теперь симпатичен стал. Жителей в Майданове множество. На большой даче живут Кондратьевы. Они устроились гораздо хуже, чем у нас было. Точно на каком-то бивуаке: ни занавесок, ни маркиз, как-то все голо и неуютно. Сам ''Н[иколай] Дм[итриевич]'' взял себе Панины комнатки. ''Мэри, Дина и Эмма'' устроились в трёх комнатах, где жила Татуся с няней, и в Толином кабинете. На большой даче напротив их живут два барона, оба семейные, имеют фортепьяно, звуки коего и до меня доходят, — но, впрочем, люди очень порядочные и симпатичные. В оранжерее живут те же ''Сытины'', а на дальней даче поместилась сама Новичиха. Она такая же бестолковая и безалаберная болтунья, как и прежде. Ежедневно ходит к Кондратьевым, но за глаза постоянно бранит и осуждает их. По вечерам иногда винт бывает. Мне ужасно странно на большой даче видеть не Толю, не Паню и Тату, не Модеста и Колю Переслени, — а Н[иколая] Дм[итриевича], Мэри и т. д. Точно будто они не туда попали! Погода не то что в прошлом году — отвратительная. Холодно было ужасно, так что Н[иколай] Дм[итриевич] топил у себя 18, 19 и 20-го июня, а теперь стало теплее, но зато не перестает лить дождь. Вася безобразно подурнел, Ариша похудела и похорошела, из собак — ''Горюн'' скончался, а ''Волчок'' мой стал уж настоящим взрослым псом, повар Василий так же застенчив и симпатичен, Алексей спорит не менее прежнего, Саша Легошин возится с экземами своего барина (Н[иколай] Дм[итриевич] имеет теперь кроме экземы сыпь на лице), — вот и всё, кажется, достойное примечания.

Ездил я на сутки в Москву по делам и видел Петра Ивановича. Я очень доволен им. Был у Влад[имира] Дмитр[иевича], не застал его, но встретил[ся] на улице с Григ[орием] Григ[орьевичем]. В следующий раз, как поеду, буду у него завтракать.

В мои именины из гостей будут приглашены к обеду Кондратьевы, фон-Визины и Новичиха. Меню уже составлено, — но гораздо скромнее прошлого года.

Коля-брат и Ольга должны проехать на днях с ребёнком, коего они взяли на воспитание (кажется, я писал уже об этом). Обнимаю, целую и прошу писать. Хорош Коля Переслени, — ни разу не написал!!!

Сейчас иду обедать к Кондратьевым.
