	Today I arrived from [[Moscow]], where I spent five whole days. [[Anna]] was still completely on her feet. Both she and [[Tanya]] made a favourable impression on me on this occasion. I like their house very much. I was at the theatre and heard a very good production of "''Don Giovanni''". Yesterday was [[Sofya Jurgenson\|Sofya Ivanovna Jurgenson]]'s name-day. Oh yes! I forgot to say that on 13th September, standing in the choir together with the ~~synodal~~ singers, I was present for the 3-hour vesper service, according to a special charter peculiar to the Uspensky Cathedral. The service was magnificent. It reminded me of the late Nikolay Lvovich, whom I was with in this same church on this day 8 years ago. I also attended mass the next day. But generally I'm happy to death that my stay in [[Moscow]] is over and that I'm home. I saw [[Laroche]]; he's changed little physically, and in other respects there was nothing new about him. I could say more about this stay in [[Moscow]], but it would be better to do so when we meet. In short, in my old age I became quite strongly ensnared in Cupid's net... In response to my letter, in which I informed him that the romances for the Empress had been written, I received a charming letter from [[Konstantin Konstantinovich]] and a book of his poems. What a pity that I didn't have them in my hands sooner. What would have been better than to write the music to his poems and to dedicate them to the Empress. Most of them are very sweet. 	Сегодня приехал из Москвы, где провёл целых пять дней. Само собой разумеется, что было много суеты, много обжорства и пьянства, бессонных ночей и т. д. Обедал у Мекков. Анна ещё совсем на ногах. И она, и Таня произвели на меня в этот раз благоприятное впечатление. Дом их мне очень нравится. Был в театре и слышал очень хорошее представление «''Дон-Жуана''». Вчера праздновались именины Софьи Иван[овны] Юргенсон. Да! забыл сказать, что 13-го сентября, стоя на клиросе вместе с синодальными певчими, я присутствовал на 3-х часовом служении всенощной, по особому, свойственному Успенскому собору, уставу. Эта служба великолепна. Она на помнила мне покойного Никол[ая] Львовича, с коим 8 лет тому назад я был в этот день в :этой же церкви. На другой день и на обедне был. Но вообще я рад до смерти, что пребывание в Москве кончилось, и что я дома. Лароша видел; он физически мало изменился, да и в других отношениях ничего нового нет в нем. ~~ещё~~ кое-что про это московское пребывание можно бы сказать, да лучше при свидании. Модинька! Я не понимаю, зачем тебе очень восставать против требований Потехина? Ведь он автор повести и, в данном случае, раз что ты взялся, следовало бы, мне кажется, уступить ему. Это бы взяло не особенно много времени, а задобрить Потехина очень не мешает. Переделывал же я по указаниям Направника почти целые действия. Во всяком случае это, конечно, неприятно, что он не сразу все одобрил, но обидного для самолюбия я тут ничего не вижу.
