The local conductor ''Engel'' complained to me that the waltz from "''[[Yevgeny Onegin]]''" that he ordered from you isn't my original, but rather some ''concoction in the form of a waltz'' done by Büchner. It seems to me that your doing this is futile. My waltz with the entr'acte can be given at any concert, even a serious one. Büchner's concoction may only be suitable for a small ballroom orchestra. And even then wouldn't it simply be better to re-score ''my waltz'' from a large to a small orchestra, rather than inserting motifs from elsewhere in the opera? Обстоятельства так складываются, что я здесь ещё останусь больше недели. Направник так бы обиделся, если бы я не был на «Гарольде», что даже если бы эта опера не интересовала меня, я бы всё-таки ради неё приехал, а она, к тому же, меня очень интересует. Уезжать же домой, чтобы тотчас опять ехать, — не стоит. Сейчас получил твоё письмо насчёт {{und2|Палермо}}. Очень радуюсь и очень тебе благодарен.

Не знаю, приедешь ли ты на «''Гарольда''»; если приедешь, то привёз и, а если не приедешь, то пришли мне оттиск, ''романсов''. Я обещал ''Каменской'', которая даёт 16-го числа концерт и очень желает спеть что-нибудь новое моего сочинения. Не забудь этого сделать. Получил письмо от ''Маккара''; он очень просит напомнить тебе, чтобы ты послал ему обещанную подлинную рукопись «''Думки''»; ещё он пишет, что ты послал по его требованию ему или прямо г. ''Эмилю Соре вальс из «Евгения Онеrина»'' с такими ошибками в голосах, что без партитуры нельзя было играть. Здешний капельмейстер ''Энгель'' жаловался мне, что на требование вальса из «''Евг[ения] Онегина''» ты послал ему не мой подлинный, а какую-то ''стряпню в форме вальса'', сделанную Бюхнером. Мне кажется, что ты это напрасно делаешь. Мой вальс с антрактом, который перед ним может быть исполняем во всяком, даже серьёзном концерте; Бюхнерская стряпня может годиться только для маленького бального оркестра. Да и то лучше бы было просто переинструментовать ''мой вальс'' с большого на малый оркестр, а не вкладывать мотивы из других мест оперы. По-моему, тебе бы следовало награвировать антракт и вальс отдельно и продавать желающим. В нем есть задатки популярности.
