			I haven't written for three days, because I went to [[Paris]]. I went on Sunday the 2nd, and left a letter for [[Modest]] on the table, which it never occurred to them to send, and I forgot to give instructions. By the evening I was in [[Paris]]. I wanted to leave on Monday, but this day turned out to be their ''Assumption''; everywhere was closed, and ''[[Mackar]]'', for whose sake I went to [[Paris]], turned out to have left the city. I had to stay another day. On the first day, the news by telegraph from [[Nikolay Dmitryevich]] was good — on the second, bad. But then it's such an awful treatment! Schuster has now started giving him a decoction, which makes him incredibly weak from the water and urinate heavily. It was terrible to look at him today. Я думаю, что к тому времени, когда придёт это письмо, Модеста и Коли уже не будет с тобой, и мне так жаль представить себе тебя одинокой, особенно если к тому же и Толи нет.

Я три дня не писал, ибо ездил в Париж. Воскресенье 2-го я выехал и оставил на столе письмо к Модесту, которое не догадались отправить, а распорядиться я позабыл. Вечером был в Париже. Хотел в понедельник назад выехать, по-ихнему этот день оказался ''Успеньем''; все было заперто, и ''Mackar'' ради которого я и поехал в Париж, оказался за городом. Пришлось оставаться ещё на один день. В первый день известие по телеграфу от Н[иколая] Дм[итриевича] было хорошее, во второй скверное. Время я провёл в Париже приятно; рад был видеть Беляров, рад был также Брандукову, который оказался в той же гостинице. Ещё там же, рядом, ''нашёлся Боткин'', сын Серг[ея] Петр[овича], который тебя знает и принадлежит к числу чудаков, находящих ''Паню'' хорошенькой. Вместе с ними оба дня обедал. Вчера провёл все утро в деловых совещаниях с Макаром. Вечером с болью в сердце выехал. Ох, невесело было мне ехать в этот ужасный Аахен. Ник[олая] Дм[итриевича] нашёл я ''очень'' ослабевшим и изменившимся в лице, но довольным и значительно бодрым духом, ибо лечение хорошо стало действовать на мочу. Но зато какое ужасное лечение! Ему Шустер стал давать теперь декокт, от которого его невероятно слабит водой и моча идёт сильно. Страшно смотреть на него сегодня. Несколько раз от слабости ему дурно делалось. Аппетит сегодня у него хороший, и доктор возлагает на это обстоятельство большие надежды. Бог знает! Быть может, и в самом деле ещё не все потеряно.

Мне остаётся здесь прожить ещё 3 недели, ибо я уже дал честное слово Н[иколаю] Д[митриевичу] уехать не ранее 25 августа.

Целую тебя, душечка моя! Тату, Толю и всех вас обнимаю и крепко целую.
