J'ai reçu du ''Gеwаndhаus'' l'invitation de jouer une de mes œuvres au concert qui doit avoir lieu le 5 Janvier (nouveau style). Je ne voudrais pas laisser passer cette occasion de me faire siffler par les ''gros-bonnets'' de la bonne ville de Leipzig. Mais malheureusement l'époque de ce concert (la 1-re répétition aura lieu le 2 Janvier 88/21 {{sic|Decembre|Décembre}} 87 {{sic|coincide|coïncide}} avec le concert de {{sic|Petersbourg|Pétersbourg}} dans lequel tu m'as invité de faire jouer "''Mozartiana''". Ne pourrais tu pas, au lieu du 26 {{sic|Decembre|Décembre}}, me permettre de jouer "''Mozartiana''" au 3-ème concert? Cela me conviendrait parfaitement, car le lendemain du concert je pourrais partir directement pour ''Lеiрzig''. Arrange cela si c'est possible, sinon {{sic|permets moi|permets-moi}} de te prier de conduire l'orchestre toi même le jour de l'exécution de "''Mozartiana''". Tu comprends, que le Gewandhaus m'intéresse énormément et que je ne puis ne pas être flatté et désireux de me faire connaître à Leipzig. Écris moi quelques mots de réponse.

J'ai été si fatigue par la «''Чародейка''» et par les deux concerts de Moscou (14 et 15) que j'ai dû renoncer à mon voyage à Tiflis. Je reste environ trois semaines dans ma paisible retraite.

I've received an invitation from the ''Gewandhaus'' to play one of my works at a concert which must take place on 5 January (new style). I do not want to pass up this opportunity to be hissed by the ''bigwigs'' of the fair city of [[Leipzig]]. But unfortunately the time of the concert (the first rehearsal is fixed for on 2 January 88/21 December 88) coincides with the concert in [[Petersburg]] in which you invited me to play "''[[Mozartiana]]''". Could you not, instead of the 26 December, permit me to play "''[[Mozartiana]]''" at the 3rd concert? That would suit me perfectly, because the day after the concert I could leave directly for ''[[Leipzig]]''. Can you arrange this if possible, otherwise permit me to ask you to conduct the orchestra yourself in the performance of "''[[Mozartiana]]''". You understand that the Gewandhaus interests me enormously and that I cannot but be flattered and keen to make myself known in [[Leipzig]]. Write me a few words in reply <ref name="note1"/>.
