Думаю, что это письмо уже застанет Вас в ''Домахе''; пора Вам быть уже в деревне, Тифлис хорош, да мало ли где ещё хорошо — но истинное блаженство можно (минутами) ощущать только в деревне. У нас погода отвратительная — и всё-таки я ужасно счастлив и доволен, что нахожусь в своём новом деревенском убежище, которым во всех отношениях я ужасно доволен. Здесь не в пример лучше, чем было в Майданове; главное, много лесу и воды.

По зрелом размышлении о том, как бы симпатичнейшую русскую певицу, застрявшую в Тифлисе, заставить показать себя столичной публике, я пришёл к заключению, что нужно выбрать ''Петербург'', а не ''Москву''. Причин множество, но главная... нет, лучше не скажу, догадайтесь сами. В Москве ''есть теперь кому мешать и препятствовать Вашему успеху''. В Петербурге почва для Вас более благоприятна. Посылаю Вам письмо ''Всеволожского'', из которого Вы усмотрите, что он предлагает Вам (в начале сезона или когда хотите) дебюты. Успех, разумеется, будет, и тогда можно будет на первый год ограничиться ''гастролями'', а там, кто знает, и блистательный ангажемент заключить. С Всеволожским я мог беседовать о Вас только письменно, но ''Погожев'' настроен мною очень благоприятно, да, впрочем, он сохранил о Вас самое симпатичное воспоминание с вечера Павловской.

Умоляю Вас, Варвара Михайловна, самым решительным образом готовить себя к дебютам в Петербурге. Изберите три наиболее для Вас выгодные партии и приезжайте с ними осенью. Я Вам предсказываю верный и большой успех. Вы слишком скромничаете; будьте больше в себе уверены.
