Отвечаю на вопросы.

1) Насчёт доли Цета в приходе; нужно ему предложить, я думаю, ''четверть'' или даже ''треть''? Впрочем, насколько я его знаю и слышал про него, он очень ''не'' корыстолюбив.

2) Я именно готов работать даром. Т. е., дело в том, что если прибыль будет, то, конечно, ни ты, ни нет меня не обидите, но если прибыли не будет, то не с тебя же или Цета её брать. Итак, этот вопрос останется открытым до конца дела.

3) ''Солисты'' будут делом ''Цета'': по возможности нужно добывать их ''даром'', и охотники, конечно, найдутся. Они должны быть исключительно русские, и выбор их или разрешение Цету приглашать того или другого, должны зависеть от ''меня''.

4) Программу теперь составлять преждевременно. В неё войдут Глинка, Даргомыжский, Серов, Рубинштейн, Балакирев, Римский-Корсаков, Бородин, и т. д. Но можно ли подробно об этом думать, когда ещё не решено — сколько концертов, будут ли они даже?

5) Оркестр должен быть не менее 80 человек, а ещё бы лучше ангажировать ''весь оркестр'' Colonn'а и с ним и вести дело.

6) ''Церковный хор'' был бы весьма желателен. Нужно вести переговоры так, что если комитет выставки может дать субсидию на путевые издержки хора, то можно приветь хор из России (я уже знаю какой); если же нет, то, подобно тому как это было в 1878, можно пригласить хор из русской церкви в Париже, усилив его. Конечно, эффект был бы двойной, если б хор был настоящий русский, ибо в Париже поют французы, и приёмы не наши традиционные.

7) Само собою, что делегатом должен быть ''ты'', а Цет — твоим представителем.

8) Цет несколько раз предлагал мне, в случае нужды, выписывать его. Хорошо было бы нам всем трём соединиться в Москве и подробно обсудить дело. Письма недостаточны, нужно побеседовать устно. И так, я ему сейчас напишу и спрошу, не может ли он между 15 и 20 приехать в Москву. А ты, независимо от сего, можешь написать ему.

In reply to your questions.

1) Regarding Zet's share of the receipts; I think he must be offered a ''quarter'' or even a ''third''? Anyway, so far as I know him and from what I've heard, he ''isn't'' rapacious.

2) I am indeed prepared to work for free. That is, if there's a profit then neither you nor I will be hard done by, but if there is a profit then it's not up to you or Zet to take it. Thus, this question will remain open until the matter is concluded.

3) The ''soloists'' will be a matter for ''Zet''; if possible they need to be engaged for free, and of course will need to be sought after. They must be exclusively Russian, and either their selection or Zet's authority to invite them must rely on ''me''.

4) It's too soon to devise the programme now. It will include [[Glinka]], [[Dargomyzhsky]], [[Serov]], [[Anton Rubinstein|Rubinstein]], [[Balakirev]], [[Rimsky-Korsakov]], [[Borodin]], etc. But how can it possibly be thought about in detail, when the number of concerts hasn't been settled, if they happen at all?

5) The orchestra must consist of at least 80 persons, and it might be preferable to engage [[Colonne]]'s ''whole orchestra'' as part of the enterprise.

6) A ''church choir'' would be highly desirable. It will be necessary to discuss a subsidy for the choir's travel costs with the exhibition committee, so that a Russian choir could be brought over (I already know which one); if not then, just as happened in 1878, the choir from the Russian church in [[Paris]] could be invited to augment it. Of course if the choir were genuinely Russian the effect would be two-fold, because in [[Paris]] they sing in French, and the techniques differ from our traditional ones.

7) Needless to say, ''you'' must be the delegate, and Zet your representative.

8) Zet suggested to me several times that I should write to him as required. It would be good if all three of use could meet in [[Moscow]] and consider the matter in detail. Letters are insufficient, it has to be discussed in person. And so, I'll write to him now and ask if he can come to [[Moscow]] between the 15th and 20th. And you can write to him independently of this.
