Сейчас я послал в дирекцию официальное письмо о том,<br/>1) что отказываюсь от дирижёрства шестью концертами,<br/>2) отказываюсь от директорства.<br />
<br />
Все, что я в этом письме пишу, есть совершенно искреннее изложение обстоятельств, принуждающих меня выйти. Если это повлечёт и твой уход, то, может быть, ''coup d'Etat'' будет слишком чувствителен. Вообще я бы очень хотел бы, чтобы ты и Рукавишников остались. Нельзя ли тебе откровенно сказать, что ты останешься директором, если тебя избавят от непосильных трат.<br />

Нужно будет собрать заседание. Пожалуйста, в случае, если начнут говорить, что, дескать, нельзя ли меня умаслить, то ты скажи, что я тебе частным образом написал, что безусловно решил уйти.<br />

''Клименко'' действительно неблагодарен, но многое ему можно простить теперь, когда он умирает. Это человек с большими способностями и с большой амбицией, которому не везло. Отсюда страшное озлобление. Но в последнее наше свидание он так трогательно просил у меня прощения, что я все забыл. ''Просьба: ради Бога пошли в запечатанном конверте 50 р[ублей] Софье Фёдоровне Ларош, Тверской бульвар, д[ом] Кириковой, кв[артиры] 7''. И никому об этом не говори. If this precipitates your departure, then perhaps the ''coup d'Etat'' will be too effective. In general I should very much like for you and [[Rukavishnikov]] to remain. Wouldn't you frankly admit that you would rather remain a director, provided you are spared the back-breaking costs?<br />
