	There are rehearsals every day. It's hard to describe the strange sensations I experience, attending the ''commencement'' of an opera again, and in such a small and comparatively impoverished theatre. However, everyone is trying awfully hard, and, it seems, the production will be brilliant ''in its own way''. Out of the performers, ''Medvedev'' is the best of them all. The rest are all inferior to the Petersburgers. Of course, ''Medvedev'' is no [[Figner]], but he has an enormous advantage — ''musicality''. I have no qualms about him, because I know that he will always hit the right note and in time. The ''intermezzo'' is particularly mesquin, but that ought to be expected. After all, the ballet here consists of four pairs. The orchestra also seems pitiful after ''[[Piter]]'' — but not so much in quality as in quantity. They play very nicely. I spend my time almost exclusively in the theatrical sphere, i.e. after rehearsals I go off to dinner at [[Pryanishnikov]]'s in the nice company of [[Přibík]] and some others, unknown to you, but who are most sympathetic. Then I go to bed, and at 7.30 I'm already seated in my box at the theatre. Yesterday I heard ''Tartakov'' for the first time in my life in "The Demon". "''Mignon''" is on today. The Plesskys were here today. [[Mitya]] is coming over now to have ''dinner'' with his friend. Tomorrow there are rehearsals and an amateur concert, which I've promised to be go to. I'm doing everything to avoid ''Blumenfeld''. In general, I'd sooner be in [[Frolovskoye]] than [[Kiev]].		There are rehearsals every day. Впрочем, все ужасно стараются, и, по-видимому, постановка ''по-своему'' будет блестящая. Из исполнителей лучше всех ''Медведев''. Остальные все уступают петербургским. Конечно, и ''Медведев'' не Фигнер, но у него огромное достоинство — ''музыкальность''. Я за него покоен, ибо знаю, что он всегда попадёт и в тон, и в такт. Особенно мескинно выходит ''интермедия''; но это и следовало ожидать. Ведь балет здесь из четырёх пар.
