On the other hand, I am so weary from the opera and in particular the concert that yesterday I was too ill do do a thing, and I need to rest in the country and finish the instrumentation of the new opera there. Well, in short, I'll be arriving in [[~~Reval~~]] a couple of weeks later than anticipated, i.e. around 25 November. I'm pining to see you with all my heart, and am very upset to have to postpone our meeting — but it is impossible to arrange things otherwise. Please, forgive me and do not be angry that I have unwittingly deceived you. "''[[The Queen of Spades]]''" went off beautifully; the ensemble was beyond praise. [[Altani]] was unrecognisable. The production was luxurious and only slightly poorer than [[Petersburg]]. I like ''Sionitskaya'' most of all. Medveyev was good, but the memory of [[Figner]] will spoil any performance of the part of Herman. It was a great success. The performance took place on 3rd November, and the concert was on the 6th. The ovations were warm. The new thing, "''[[The Voyevoda (symphonic ballad)\|The Voyevoda]]''", turned out to be very unsuccessful, so I shall destroy it. I fear this is a sign of my declining abilities, although by the way, [[Taneyev]], who is making the piano reduction, lauds the new opera. I stayed another 3 days, because I was persuaded to by the artists, who are throwing a dinner in my honour tomorrow. On Sunday I shall go home, rest, work, and then, after finishing the opera, come to you. 	Милый мой Толя! Обстоятельство переменились. Я должен в Петербурге дирижировать в концерте в пользу голодающих 1-го декабря. Если бы я поехал теперь в Петербург и в Ревель, то отнял бы у себя слишком много времени и, так как необходимо было бы всё-таки вернуться в Майданово после поездки к вам, — то и слишком много денег, о я должен быть теперь экономен. С другой стороны, я до того утомился от оперы и в особенности концерта, что вчера расхворался не на шутку и мне необходимо отдохнуть в деревне и кончить там инструментовку новой оперы. Ну словом, я приеду в Ревель 2-мя неделями позже, нежели предполагал, т. е. около 25 ноября. Я рвусь к вам всей душой и очень огорчаюсь, что принуждён отложить свиданье с вами, — но невозможно иначе устроиться.
