Я пробовал спрашивать его, какая вещь может доставить ему удовольствие, — но он и слышать не хочет этого вопроса. Поэтому обращаюсь к тебе. I've just arrived home <ref name="note1"/>, and will stay here for at least 3 weeks without interruption.<br />

I really want to and must get a gift for ''[[Osip Ivanovich]]'', at least something tangible to repay him for of all his efforts on my affairs. I've tried asking what sort of thing might please him, but he won't hear of it. Therefore I'm turning to you. What could I bring him that would give him a little enjoyment? Please consult with [[Sofiya Jurgenson|Sofiya Ivanovna]].<br />

The suite from the ballet <ref name="note2"/> was successful. I don't think it would hurt to print it. I was permitted to take a ''copy'' of it in [[Petersburg]], a copy made incidentally for you (at my expense). If they want to play it all summer, then let them. <br />
