This news, in connection with Shakhovsky's words and other indications, makes me believe that you really are going to receive a governorship. 	Как я бессовестно мало и редко пишу тебе, мой милый Толя! Прости, пожалуйста. Это объясняется тем, что я во все лопатки инструментую свой балет, дабы к пасхе работа была готова, — это необходимо. Про мою поездку и пребывание в Петербурге Паня, вероятно, тебе писала. Оттуда я приехал домой и провожу свои дни обычным образом, с той приятной особенностью, что у меня гостят два племянника: ''Боб и Саня''. Они готовятся к экзаменам и работают не меньше меня. Скоро мы все разъедемся: они в Петербург, а я, вероятно, в Москву прямо. Мне (не знаю, известно ли тебе) предстоит в апреле дирижировать несколько раз в частной опере Прянишникова. Модест с Колей вчера выехали за границу. Пока я буду в Москве, Алексей перевезёт моё добро в новое помещение, в Клину. Опять не помню, писал ли я тебе, что нанял дом в Клину, на шоссе, по дороге в Фроловское. Дом большой, красивый и удобный. У меня будут там чудесные комнаты, свои небольшой сад и полное отсутствие соседей. Я очень доволен этим переездом, ибо Майданово все тошнее и тошнее становится. В «Московских ведомостях» есть известие, что ты не вернёшься в Ревель, — но не сказано, какое другое назначение. Это известие в связи с словами Шаховского и с другими признаками заставляет меня верить, что ты действительно получаешь губернаторство. И, право, все равно где, лишь бы выйти из вице-губернаторства, а там можно будет и о перемещении подумать. Дай-то бог! Письмо твоё в высшей степени интересно: мы читали его все вместе и жалели тебя и вместе завидовали. Вот это настоящее дело! И, по-моему, для тебя на всю жизнь превосходное воспоминание.
