			Thank you for the "''New Time''" It's a strange thing: I'm here in order to rid myself of the imposition of my compatriots, living under the name ''Pierre Davidoff'', and all letters are addressed to me in this name. I forgot to warn you about this — but nevertheless, I have received and am receiving the letter and the newspapers.

			[[Bob]] and I are bored to tears. You cannot imagine anything more bleak that ''[[Vichy]]'', anything more vulgar or more horrid. You cannot even console yourself with long walks, because the whole day is taken up with treatments: water in the morning, then after lunch, barely do you have time to come to your senses than you need to rush to the baths or shower, and at 3 o'clock to drink the water again. Не кажется, что ты даёшь мне очень недостаточный адрес: ни ''Veulette'', ни ''Сапу'' нет на карте. Боюсь, что письмо не дойдёт. Впрочем, прибавлю: ''La Manche''.

Спасибо тебе за «''Новое время''». Странная вещь: я здесь, чтобы отделаться от навязывания соотечественников, живу под фамилией ''Pierre Davidoff'', и на это имя адресуют мне все письма. Тебя я забыл о том предупредить, — но тем не менее и письмо твоё, и газеты получил и получаю.

Мы неистово скучаем с Бобом. Ничего безотраднее ''Виши'', ничего пошлее, ничего противнее выдумать нельзя. Даже нельзя утешаться дальними прогулками, ибо весь день занят лечением: утром воды, после завтрака, едва успеешь опомниться, нужно спешить в ванну или душ, а в 3 часа опять пить воды. Потом обед, и наступил вечер, который мы убиваем в театре, к счастью, весьма недурном. Не только о занятиях, но даже о чтении нечего и думать. Зато действие вод отлично, и в отношении здоровья мы оба сознаем пользу Виши. Ждём не дождёмся дня отъезда.

Увы, Саша, — невозможно заехать к тебе. Боба отец усиленно зовёт домой прямо из Виши, — а оставлять его одного мне не хочется. Параша здесь, и моё отношение к присутствию её около нас не изменилось. То, что я говорил ''Вере'' о причине её поездки, подтвердилось больше, чем когда-либо. Стеснительно, досадно, неприятно, подчас очень тяжело, ибо бедный ''Боб'' очень тяготится этим. Конечно, все это пусть останется между нами. Перед отъездом я ещё раз напишу. Обнимаю тебя крепко. Целую Верину ручку.

Оркестр здесь очень недурный, и опера порядочная.

{{und2|P. S.}} О большой фотографии для Лемана я позабочусь, когда буду в Петербурге сам. Летом театральная фотография закрыта. Поэтому купить такой портрет нельзя. Но я пошлю ''Леману'' портрет, при надлежащий ''Модесту''. Торопиться с этим делом нечего, но если ты непременно хочешь сейчас, то не попросить ли ''Николаева'' поискать, — может быть, найдётся у ''Шапиро, Паретти''. Мне поручать некому, ибо даже ''О. И. Юргенсона'' теперь в Петербурге нет.
