Должно быть, второпях, когда я тебе писал я последний, — то слишком много распространялся о своих стараниях и как бы навязался на твои благодарственные слова: дескать, вот какой я твой благодетель!!

''Особенно'' торопиться нечего, и если ты имел намеренье приехать на «''Иоланту''», то можно ознакомление с твоей оперой отложить до того времени (представление состоится 6-го декабря); но если ты на «''Иоланту''» не собираешься, — то приезжай, когда хочешь, только во всяком случае приезжай. Итак, сообразивши и решивши, когда ты выедешь, дай мне знать, а я приготовлю ''audition'' у директора. Буду ждать с нетерпением твоего ответа.

Об Антоше я много говорил с директором и, согласно обещанию, просил его ''заказать'' ему «Наль и Дамаянти», но от этого безусловно отказывается, т. е. говорит, что пускай пишет и кончает, когда хочет, и тогда увидим. Что касается ''балета'', то на будущий сезон балет уже имеется, а на следующий (1894/95) он очень рад заказать Антоше балет, ''если он выберет хороший сюжет''. Итак, мне кажется, Антоше следует кончать оперу во что бы то ни стало и, быть может, он успеет приготовить к сезону 94/95 и то, и другое.

Про ''Бларамберга'' не может быть и речи. Признаюсь, не очень-то я доверяю твоим похвалам; мне кажется, что ты по доброте сердца за него заступаешься.

I must have been in a hurry when I last wrote to you <ref name="note1"/>: I talked too much on my own efforts and how I might press you for a word of thanks; you know how people say I'm your benefactor!!

There is no ''particular'' urgency, and if you were intending to come to ''[[Iolanta]]'', then my becoming acquainted with your opera could be postponed until that time (the performance is to take place on 6th December); but if you aren't coming to "''[[Iolanta]]''", then come over whenever you want, just come anyway. So think it over and decide, and let me know when you want to come, and I'll arrange an ''audition'' with the director. I'll be looking forward to your answer.

I have had many discussions with the director about [[Antosha]] and, as promised, asked him ''to commission'' "Nal and Damaianti" from him, but it goes without saying that he refuses, i.e. he says let him write and finish it whenever he wants, and we shall see. So far as the ''ballet'' is concerned, then the next season already has one planned <ref name="note2"/>, but for the next (1894/95) he is very glad to ask [[Antosha]] for a ballet, ''if he can choose a good subject''. And so I think that [[Antosha]] should finish the opera at all costs, and perhaps he will have time to prepare for the 94/95 season, and other things.

''Blaramberg'' is out of the question <ref name="note3"/>. I confess that I don't really have much confidence in your recommendation; I think you are standing up for him out of kindheartedness.
