Я кончил инструментовку своей новой симфонии. Теперь ещё около недели я буду возиться с выставлением знаков и с просмотром. Переложение в 4 руки я тоже сделал сам, и мне остаётся только проиграть его, что я и сделаю на днях, для каковой цели пригласил к себе младшего ''Конюса''. Переложение, после того как я проиграю его, я могу сейчас же сдать тебе (в том предположении, что ты будешь вообще издавать эту симфонию). Но что касается партитуры и голосов, то раньше, чем я исполню симфонию, невозможно считать её окончательно готовой к гравировке. А исполнение будет 16-го октября в Петербурге. Петерссен торопит поскорее прислать партитуру для переписки на голоса. Как мне поступить? Может быть, тебе неприятно, что я распоряжаюсь тем, что, собственно, тебя касается. Может быть, ты желаешь сам отдать в переписку, хотя, собственно, зачем же платить, когда Петербургское муз[ыкальное] общ[ество] должно переписать за свой счёт? Итак, все это я сообщаю тебе для сведения и прошу сказать, чего ты желаешь. Честное слово, я никогда в жизни не был ещё так доволен собой, так горд, так счастлив сознанием, что сделал в самом деле хорошую вещь!

Пожалуйста, ответь мне сейчас же.

Через неделю я, может быть, на один день приеду в Москву.

I've finished scoring the new [[Symphony No. 6|symphony]]. Now I'll be spending a week or so reviewing it and putting in the markings. I've also done a 4-hand arrangement myself, and it only remains for me to play it through, which I'll do in a few days, and I've invited the younger ''[[Lev Konyus|Konyus]]'' for this purpose. After I've played it through, I can give you the arrangement at once (assuming that you'll be publishing the symphony in general). But as regards the score and parts, then it's impossible to consider it finally ready for engraving before I've performed the symphony. And the performance will be on 16th October in [[Petersburg]]. [[Peterssen]] is urging me to send the score for copying out the parts as soon as possible. What should I do? Perhaps you will be displeased if I deal with something which is really your concern? Perhaps you want to arrange the copying yourself, although really, why should you pay out when the [[Petersburg]] musical society is having it copied at their own expense? Therefore, I'm telling you this information and asking you to state your wishes. On my word of honour, never in my life have I been so satisfied, so proud, so happy in the knowledge that I've produced something truly good!

Perhaps I'll come to [[Moscow]] for a day next week.
