	I have just read in one of the [[Petersburg]] newspapers that the dances from "''[[Vakula]]''" have been included in the programme for the symphony concerts. Instead of these dances, would it possible to perform my new symphonic work "''[[Francesca da Rimini]]''"? I am now engaged in its instrumentation, and hope that the full score will be ready within a week. I should not have presumed to ~~pressed~~ this thing on you, had my name not been on the concert programme at all; but as you were kind enough to include me there, then I should be very grateful to you if you were to agree to my present suggestion. I ought to confess to you frankly that I am somewhat worried about the fate of my opera. Сейчас я прочёл в одной петербургской газете, что в программу симфонических собраний вошли танцы из «''Вакулы''». Не найдёте ли возможным вместо этих танцев исполнить новое моё симфоническое сочинение фантазию «''Франческа да Римини''». Я теперь занят инструментовкой этой вещи и надеюсь, что недели через две партитура будет готова. Я бы не стал Вам навязывать эту вещь, если б моё имя вовсе не стояло в программе; но так как Вы так добры, что меня туда включили, то я бы был Вам очень благодарен, если б Вы согласились, на моё теперешнее предложение.

Я должен Вам признаться откровенно, что несколько беспокоюсь насчёт судьбы моей оперы. До сих пор не имею никаких известий об том, начались ли хоровые спевки и т. д. Не потрудитесь ли Вы ответить мне хоть в двух словах, в каком положении находится дело о постановке «''Вакулы''» и когда потребуется моё присутствие в Петербурге.
