Модя! Чувствую, что ты беспокоишься обо мне, и испытываю потребность успокоить тебя. Свадьба мая состоялась 6-го июля. Толя на ней присутствовал. День этот, не скрою, был довольно тяжек для меня уж хотя бы оттого, что пришлось выдержать церемонию бракосочетания, длинный свадебный завтрак, отъезд с провожаниями и т. д. Дорогой я отлично спал. Вчера мы провели день довольно приятно, вечером катались были в каком-то увеселительном месте на Крестовском и ночь прошла очень покойно. Лишения девственности не произошло, да может быть и не скоро ещё произойдёт. Но я обставил себя так, что об этом и беспокоиться нечего. У жены моей одно огромное достоинство: она слепо мне подчиняется во всем, она очень складная, она всем довольно и ничего не желает, кроме счастия быть мне подпорой и утешением. Сказать, что люблю её — я ещё не могу, на уже чувствую, что буду её любить, как только мы друг к другу привыкнем.

Вот что я хочу тебя просить, Моденька! До августа я проживу неразлучно с женой: здесь, в деревне у её матери, в Москве и т. д. 1-го августа я выезжаю из Москвы и еду прямо к ''Саше'', где, во всяком случае, проведу несколько дней. Как я бы желал, чтоб ты продлил своё пребывание до моего приезда, как мне приятно было бы тебя видеть! Если же нельзя тебе оставаться более нескольких дней, то не согласишься ли приехать к Саше позднее, а не 15-го июля, -как предполагал. Как бы то ни было, на постарайся устроить свидание со мной.

Я написал ''большую'' часть «''Онегина''» в Глебове, — очень бы хотелось до наступления учебного года написать все остальное, — но не знаю, поспею ли.
