22 April

Panichka! I'm so exhausted and upset that I decided to spend the whole of this evening out of town. Tomorrow I want to dine with Anna, and will write to her so that she will wait for you [1]. Come with Tatusa and Carabosse [2]. The box is at your disposal again today [3].

I kiss your hands!

P. Tchaikovsky

I'd only just written this letter and was about to send it when I received yours [4], bringing heartfelt news. My God I would love to come to lunch my darling, but I have an overwhelming desire to walk and breathe in the fresh air. Therefore I'm going to go to the Sparrow Hills [5]. Will you be able to dine with Anna tomorrow? If you cannot then I'll come to you at 5 o'clock. You're welcome at the theatre today.

Until we meet, my darling!

Yours, P. Tchaikovsky
